There has been a lot of exciting action on Shore Drive in Virginia Beach over the past few months and we like to think our newest neighborhood, Bayville at Lake Joyce, has played a big part in that!
This neighborhood sits right on Lake Joyce and will allow its residents to take full advantage of the water lifestyle. There are multiple lots that sit on the lake, but there is also a park for the neighborhood that looks out at the above breathtaking view.
Bayville at Lake Joyce also features a community garden, a dog park, and the above pergola that sits right next to the delicious Leaping Lizard Cafe.
The homes themselves are also full of great features…
This is the “Bar Harbor” model. It features 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, a covered front and back porch, and media room!
The outside is equipped with the best siding (more info here), a two car garage, and each home even comes with landscaping!
Upon entering the home, your eye is immediately drawn to the large kitchen because of the open concept layout. Some details to note: the full tile backsplash, recessed lighting, Kenmore stainless steel appliances, and granite countertops. Another fun feature is the hood over the oven!
The living room is open and airy because of the windows and 9ft ceilings. Stay warm during the winters with your gas fireplace and enjoy the functionality of the built-ins on each side of it! And would you look at that trim!
The spacious master bedroom pretty much speaks for itself. Stunning and serine.
And you’ve got to tour the house to see the shower on the other side of this double sink vanity!
If you would like more information on the homes in Bayville, please contact Scott Berry at 757-377-1721.
This neighborhood stands where Baylake Pines School once operated. Part of the neighborhood is dedicated to the memory of this school with the below statue.
The stepping stones also have names of families, students, and teachers to keep the school spirit alive!
Ranier Village at Ashville Park is located off of Princess Anne Road in Virginia Beach, Virginia. In this community, we have built many beautiful and unique homes with fun southern features. The home above, is the Caroline II model and it features 5 bedrooms, 3.5 baths and a two car garage.
Perhaps one of Ranier Village at Ashville Park’s best assets is the community area in the neighborhood!
With tons of space for little ones to play (including this awesome jungle gym), Ranier Village at Ashville Park is a great place to settle down!
One of our newest homes in the Ashville Park community is 1920 Gradon Loop Rd. It has a screened in porch off the back and a crisp white kitchen ready to be decorated!
Did we mention it has a gas stove and a playroom? It is a must see!
The Savannah model, pictured above, is also a great option in the neighborhood! It has 5 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a two car garage, and is 3,050 square feet! Here are a few photos of it…notice the southern details!
Look at that patio (and pergola on the right)! Talk about the perfect place to host a summer cookout (side note, summer already is less than 90 days away)!
The high ceilings in the master make it feel fit for a Queen (or a King)!
How about that wainscoting and crown molding? Gorgeous! We spare no detail in our homes and they are made of top quality materials! Check out our blog post on why buying a new construction home is a good idea here.

For almost 20 years we have been building new construction homes in Virginia Beach so we have learned what products make the best homes. One vendor we use often on our new homes is James Hardie.
James Hardie is the leading manufacture in fiber cement siding. We choose their product because it is very low maintenance and is great in inclement weather (which is so important for beach houses). We use their UVA resistant pre-finished boards with “COLORPLUS TECHNOLOGY”. These are great because James Hardie applies multiple layers of paint, bakes, and cures each coat. This causes the siding to look better for much longer and to fade less than regular vinyl options.

The holiday’s are a magical time of year to spend with family. The lights, the trees, the food, wa-woo!
Unfortunately though, it is also a time of year when tragedies in the home occur. Here are a few tips to keep your home safe!
Tip #1: Don’t dispose of wrapping paper in the fireplace!
Wrapping paper gets fancier every year. Some has glitter, some foil… Nonetheless, it can cause sparks in your fireplace that can bounce out onto flammable things in your home like rugs and unwatered Christmas trees. Which leads us to…
Tip #2: Water your Christmas tree
A dry Christmas tree not only makes a mess with dropping needles, it also has a high risk of starting a fire in your home.
Remember safety first! Check all Christmas tree lights, other electric decorations and electrical appliances with worn electrical cords before plugging in! Also use only approved electrical decorations and extension cords. Avoid putting the tree near heat registers, space heaters, fire places and wood stoves. And don’t forget to unplug the tree before leaving or going to sleep. Don’t worry, Santa will still be able to find you when your lights are off 😉 he has Rudolph!
Tip #3 Lock up
While most everyone is in the spirit of giving, some are in the spirit of taking. When all your presents are piled under the tree, it can be an easy score for robbers. Make sure your doors are always locked and if you have a security system, set it.
Are you reading this and thinking you’d like somewhere new you can deck the halls? Check out our new construction homes in Virginia Beach. We have homes from 2 bedrooms up to 5 and can accommodate any family and style! We’ll even put a big red bow on it for you 😉
See ya this weekend!
It may not come as a surprise to you that we think buying your home newly constructed is the best idea (cough, cough, we build new homes) but some of the reasons to buy new might be something you never considered.
Here are our top 5 reasons for buying new construction:
Reason #1: Energy Savings
– Shop this home here–
On the East Coast, humidity is an everyday battle. This past summer temperatures soared which meant your older home’s AC unit was probably working its butt off to keep you cool and happy on the inside. In a new home, things run a lot smoother. The new windows allow less air in or out (if any) meaning your AC unit doesn’t have to work so hard with equals savings on your electric bill. Can we get an amen?
Reason #2: Warranty
-Shop this home here–
A homeowners worst nightmare is moving into a home and needing to replace an appliance or worse…a roof. When you buy an older or used home, the possibility of that is high. When you buy a newly construction home though, it is under warranty (ask us about ours when you visit). What did we learn from the Lion King? Hakuna matata, it means no worries. Plus, a newly built home is built with new technology and products. No one can argue that a 1990’s garbage disposal is better than one from 2016.
Reason #3: Financing
-Shop this home here–
Money. It makes the world go round. Well, when you decide to purchase a Bishard Home we have resources to help. We work directly with Coastal Home Mortgage. They offer a wide array of loan programs and competitive interest rates to best fit each buyer’s individual needs. Of course you can go with a different lender but we want you to know that we are here to help!
Reason #4: Customization Options
We take a lot of pride in attention to detail. Our homes are built with designs that incorporate a natural blend of Southern (Charleston-influenced) and Coastal Living architectural styles. We like crown molding and granite countertops so we offer the ability for you to customize your new home. Stop by our communities like Holland Crossing, the Enclave, and Shadowlawn North for more info!
Reason #5: Move in Ready
You may watch the HGTV show Fixer Upper and love it. Heck, we like it too! But buying a home that you plan to make improvements to is not as easy as they make it look. It takes time, money, and expertise. When you buy a newly constructed home it is move in ready. You won’t have to waist quality family time hammering away. You buy, move in, and enjoy.
If you appreciate the finer things in life, including owning a high-quality home from a reliable builder, you’ve come to the right place. This is surely the hottest week Virginia Beach has seen in a while. It seems like every TV and radio station is broadcasting a heat advisory so we thought we’d share a few tips on how to keep your home cool in the crazy heat!
Cooling Tip #1: Be Cautious of Your Doors
Photo from Bishard Home in Wilshire Village
Shut them as soon as possible. With kids running around or bring groceries inside, we sometimes fail to seal our entries every time we walk in or out. Being cautious of this could help you avoid letting more precious cold air escape your home than necessary.
Cooling Tip #2: Cook Outside
Photo from Bishard Home in Ranier Village
Cooking with your oven and stove can really raise the temperature in your home. Throwing some shrimp on the barbee will not only keep your home cooler, but it will help you appreciate the cool air when you walk back indoors. Plus, before we know it, winter will be here! Take advantage of the outdoors as much as possible!
Cooling Tip #3: Keep Air Circulating
Photo from Bishard Home in Ranier Village
Turning on fans in your home and making sure they are running counter clockwise will create a breeze throughout your home. Also utilize bathroom vents to pull hot air out of rooms!
Cooling Tip #4: Clean Your Unit
Straight from a cooling specialists mouth, cleaning your unit with simple green will do wonders! This cleaner is not too harsh and great for outdoor use. Spray your unit with this and hose it down afterward 3-4 times a year.
Cooling Tip #5: Get a New Home

We may be biased but we think the easiest way to stay cool is in a fresh new home! Come check out our properties that are sure to check off everything on your wish list this summer!
Rose & Womble New Homes Specialist, Jen Barkan, is proud to host a weekly social media chat called #AskJenLive! Each week, Jen brings an adoptable dog with her while she features an available new home or new homes community. As if that isn’t cool enough, each new homes builder sponsors the dog by paying for its adoption fees once a suitable owner is found!
This week, #AskJenLive visited our new homes community of Willow Pond, located in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Meet Sadie! She’s a 9 year old sweetheart mix breed looking for a new home to lay her head at night. She’s very affectionate, loves people & children. She would prefer to be the only furry kid though. Sadie is completely blind but she gets around very well and quickly adapts to her surroundings.
About the Area:
Today I am here at Willow Pond in Virginia Beach. This community is located close to military bases, Town Center of Virginia Beach and Williams Farm Recreation Center–which features indoor/outdoor pools, weight room, track, gymnasium, skate park and more!
About the Community:
We’re here at Willow Pond for #AskJenLive!
Willow Pond is a gated community and all homes are now complete–so no construction noise! Homes feature front yards and open space landscaping. Floor plans offer 3 floors of living, making a larger home more affordable!
I love all of the beautiful landscaping our builder Bishard Homes has done in this neighborhood. There are several pergolas throughout the community with knockout roses.
About the Homes:
Today’s featured home is the Hannah model located at 717 Valentine Lane. This home has a water feature off of the backyard which adds a peaceful ambiance off of the back patio!
Lois says this is the most popular cabinet option here at Willow Pond. It’s Espresso by Armstrong Cabinets.
We’re on the 3rd floor of our Hannah model here at Willow Pond. This house is such a great value with 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths and 3 levels of living!
Today’s featured builder is Bishard Homes known for their coastal style homes and use of beach-y colors and style in their homes. Which of these coastal colors do you like best? Blue or sand? They’re both available now!
Sadie is saying thank you to Lois for hosting us!
Thank you to all that joined me today for #AskJenLive! If you have any questions about Willow Pond or my sweet pal Sadie from the Norfolk SPCA No-Kill Adoption Center & Veterinary Clinics, feel free to give me a call at (757) 774-6999!
