The Best 2019 Summer Events in Virginia Beach 

Summer is now officially in full swing, which brings a great deal of excitement to the town of Virginia Beach. While residents can (and do) attest to the busyness that this season brings, there is nothing quite like the unique energy of summertime. If the incoming tourists from all over the country and the world don’t already point to how special Virginia Beach summers are, the enjoyable events we are about to share certainly will. Full of culture, creativity, and fun – there’s no reason to not feel like you’re on vacation in your own town this summer with the following to look forward to!  

1. ECSC

Also known as the East Coast Surfing Championships, this is a week full of events and entertainment that celebrate the best of the beach. This will be the 57^th year ECSC has been held, and includes surfing and volleyball competitions, the Miss ECSC Pageant, a BMX monster jump, and entertainment all weekend. This year’s festivities will be held August 18^th-25^th, and incorporate a range of activities, vendors, and competitions that you won’t want to miss. 

2. Sandstock 

Wanna rock and roll all night? How about all weekend at this year’s Sandstock, a beach take on Woodstock that features national and local bands covering iconic artists as a tribute to rock and roll. Performances include covers of Foreigner, The Who, and Bon Jovi – and the entire weekend is free to boot. Come listen and enjoy some of the most classic songs at the 24^th street stages at the Oceanfront June 28^th-30^th. 

3. Cultured 2k19: 4^th Annual Utopia Feni Music + Arts Festival  

This exciting festival incorporates an art market, international food market, a new art exhibit, and interactive activities to honor the diverse cultures present in Virginia Beach. Put on by Utopia Feni inc. - a non-profit business whose mission is to support creativity and artistic presence locally as well as in internationally underserved communities - this event incorporates the talents of local artists, as well as live music and entertainment throughout. A family friendly event with lovely displays, this event takes place August 10^th from 3-8 pm. 

4. Chalk the walk

This ARTsplosion of fun takes place July 6^th, and features a chalk drawing competition centered around this year’s theme: A Big, Beautiful World. Located between 15^th and 17^th streets at the Oceanfront, come and see the boardwalk transformed into a beautifully illustrated walkway of color from the works of over 200 participants of all ages. It is a blast to walk the area and admire the talents of our community members.

5. Senior Gala

Grab your dancing shoes, seniors! This year’s Seniors Gala on September 4^th at the Virginia Beach Convention Center will be a night to remember. With live music, food, drinks, and – of course – dancing, this is a wonderful chance to spend a special night with friends and family. Tickets will be sold starting August 1^st, and more information can be found by contacting the Neptune office at (757) 498-0215.
