Building New Homes in Older Areas
Building New Homes in Older Areas
Many people know that Bishard Homes builds new homes in communities we develop ourselves. However, we also buy land in established areas of Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Chesapeake that desperately need redevelopment.
Although this is a challenge many homebuilders avoid, we felt that this was a great way that we could help improve parts of the city beyond our previous reach. Here are just a few of the amazing improvements we’ve been able to make.
12th Street
This is what 12th street looked like in 2007. This site was actually a dumping ground for a trailer park. While clearing this land, we uncovered something of a landfill, unearthing old mattresses, refrigerators, and even a car.
By 2011, this site had its first new home:
After four more years of great progress, here is what this street looked like by 2015:
This street looks just as beautiful in 2020 and home values in the area are on the rise!
Coronet Avenue
Behind this overgrowth was a home in a state of disrepair that could not find a buyer. However, Bishard saw the potential in this property, which is ideally located just a block from Chic’s Beach. Here is what it looked like when we acquired it:
Want to see what we built here? 4509 Coronet Avenue is actually complete and available now. If you are looking for a new home in the Chic’s Beach area, learn more about this 2,980-square-foot new home just steps away from the water.
Bayville at Lake Joyce
Anyone familiar with Bayville at Lake Joyce might be astounded to know that this in-demand community ever looked like anything other than the epitome of coastal luxury living, as it does today.
Here is what it looked like when Bishard Homes acquired the land:
Formerly occupied by Baylake Pines School, Bishard Homes saw the potential for this property. For one, it has an ideal location on the shore of Lake Joyce and next to Chesapeake Bay. The land will comfortably accommodate 30 luxury homes, as well as a monument to the former school and Baylake Pines Memorial Park with stately trees and native shrubs and flowers.

Victory Road
Many properties that come on our radar simply were never maintained or updated. This home on Victory Avenue, for example, was surrounded by beautiful, established trees and well-kept homes
Believe it or not, this is the same homesite!
As you can see, a Bishard Homes new build looks just as amazing in an established community as it does in a brand new development. If you have land that Bishard could change from barren to beautiful, please let us know. We are happy to answer any questions you may have.
Also, if you are interested in a new home in an established neighborhood, we can build your new home on your lot. Find out where we build, see our floor plans, and let’s get started today.
